Of the many Sprinkles locations, I had the pleasure of visiting them in Scottsdale, AZ. At the time of my visit they had a gluten-free red velvet cupcake, apparently their only gluten-free offering at the time. My favorite part of a cupcake is frosting, and with an oversize dollop on my cupcake (okay, maybe two), I was very pleased. It was so sweet, however, that it overpowered the cupcake just slightly. The cupcake was moist and smooth in texture, difficult to achieve in gluten-free baking.
Hopefully future cupcake tastings will strike a better frosting/cake balance, or that additional gluten-free flavors will be introduced at Sprinkles’ bakeries nation-wide. I do have to complement Sprinkles on presentation. Even on a busy Sunday morning, the staff took great care in packaging the cupcakes. The deformed cupcake above resulted purely from my eagerness in ripping the box open!
