Half way up Pikes Peak in Colorado is a friendly rest stop called Barr Camp. Since 1979, Caretakers have stayed at Barr Camp, welcoming visitors and making sure all are hiking safely. Reservations can be made in advance for those wanting to stay the night. Not a bad idea during a 24-mile round trip hike up one of Colorado’s toughest 14ers, to a height of 4302m (14,155ft).
Neal and Teresa Taylor have been Caretakers since 2005, making their home at 3109m (10,200 ft). In some instances, they are called upon to carry out a rescue mission.
